As a Level Assistant, I started with tidying up and polishing the tutorial levels of the game before being given more responsibility in the form of adjusting puzzles based on feedback. My prior experience in Unreal Engine 5 proved to be incredibly useful as it helped me settle into the project easily.

This experience helped greatly into being given more and more responsibilities, the main one being the responsibility of redesigning an entire level. Something I cannot share screenshots or videos of at this time due to being under NDA but, trust me.

This level's redesign was handled over a 3 day period, with the implementation of a new game mechanic being introduced within this level. Iterating on feedback over the following days helped shape the level into an enjoyable, challenging experience that 

 

Tutorialisation of this mechanic was crucial as it gave players the context needed to then understand how it is used later on within the level.

​

Expanding upon the tutorial to create interesting and challenging puzzles was a challenge in of itself, but it allowed me to prove my capabilities as a level designer.

My story at Aardman

Aardman has been my first experience working in industry for an extended period of time. Initially joining the team on a 2 week work experience contract, I started as a Level Assistant, and getting used to a professional industry environment.​

Thanks to my hard work and eagerness to keep learning and get involved within the project, my contract was extended from 2 weeks to 3 months.

 

Later, this was further extended for another 2 months, lasting until the end of the project.
